Neglected

Unbelievable! It has been so long since I posted a real post. I have been so busy I have neglected my blog. My last post I was getting ready to hop on a plane to Vegas and see my father who was in complete liver failure. I am so glad I did go. He is actually doing so much better. He still has a ways to go. There are a lot of lifestyle changes to adhere to. But, everyday he has gotten stronger :o) I am so relieved about this. He is actually going back to work on the 9th of Feb. Thanks for all of the kind words and prayers. They really helped him, and me.

One really great outcome from my trip was my 2 almost 3 year old is no longer nursing...woo-hoo!! I was so done a long time ago but had no idea how to nip it in the bud. Well taking a trip for 6 days was the way to go. I am loving my freedom again!!

I have also been busy sewing and filling orders. Things have picked up for me a little bit, which is great. As some of you may remember I re-did my website a few months back....well, I am re-doing it again. At some point my blog will be moving as well. I will be using Wordpress for the both of them. That way they are integrated..which is what I wanted all along. Lets hope I stick with this and don't change my mind..AGAIN! ;o) I'll let ya know when I have everything done on the other site.

We have also re-homed our beloved boxer doggies :( This was such a hard decision(it took a year). But my son Devin is allergic to them and we think he Severe Eczema is so severe due to the dogs. He has had Eczema since he was 5 mos., as well as a lot of Food Allergies, and Asthma.
His Eczema got worse after we got dogs...DUH! Of course we didn't know cause of all of the foods we have found he is allergic to. I do hope this helps him. It's horrible to be so itchy all the time. I have to say he is itching a little bit less so far.

PDF Pattern Recomendations...

Does anyone else love PDF patterns as much as I do? I love the fact that you pay for them and then you have the pattern in less than 24 hours. When you get them you save them , and print them out yourself. The only issue I have with some PDF's is that they have sooooo many pages. But I have been lucky enough to find my printer ink at a few thrift store's. Another option to check out is places like Kinkos, & Staples. They offer services where you can upload the pattern thru the web, and they will print it out for you for a fee...That way you aren't waisting your ink and paper. I have yet to try this method. I print as I need them.

Now to the good part. I am going to be listing a bunch of great Etsy shops you can purchase PDF patterns from. These are sellers I have purchased from, and the items I have purchased...OK...Let the linking begin :)

Sunday Stash

Today's Sunday Stash is dedicated to Sandi Henderson and her Ginger Blossom line. Oh how I love thee!! I had several other prints but they were used long ago. This is all I have left.

Just lovely, aren't they! I have joined 2 new swaps thru Swap-Bot. The first is an Owl stuffie swap. The other is a Foodie fabric swap. I think for the foodie swap my partner will be getting a 1/2 yard of 1 of these. Or maybe I will cut 2 fat quarters from 2 of them..?? Not sure yet. I am excited about making an owl stuffie. My partner has 2 kids so I will be making 2 instead of one :0) I have to say the only downfall with Swap-Bot is that you get points..which is fine. But, it is difficult to fing good swaps that accept newbies :^( Anyone else involved in a good swap, or know of a good resource for swapping let me know.

Well I have to ends this post now. My daughter is tugging on my arm, making it difficult to concentrate. Not to mention very hard to type...Enjoy your Sunday evening :0)

What a way to ring in the New Year...

First and foremost HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! I am so glad the 2008 has come and gone. Hopefully 2009 will be a better year than last. It was not a fun year, let me tell you! But I am going to start this year off on a positive foot. This morning I woke up to several emails. They were for 3 custom orders for purses, and wallets...woo-hoo!! The other was a question in regards to my Woodland Bloom bag I had for sale in my Etsy Store. Well, it sold!! Finally, I sell one of my bags on Etsy. This made my day :0) I have already begun making a few more items to list in my Etsy Store. I am hoping to stock it well....and to take WAY better pictures. I feel like the pictures I have taken do not do my items justice. So I will be working on learning how to take better pics. Hopefully at some point this year I will get a better camera, and a better sewing machine....hear that hubby?!!!

I have also opened an account over at Artfire. I want to give it a shot over there. With their free account option there are no selling fees, and you can sell up to 10 items at a time. It's worth a shot. There is also a to check out Artfire click HERE. It seems to be growing :0)

Today seems like it is going to be a sewing day. I have already cleaned, and everybody around here seems to be in relaxation mode. Devin and my hubby Jay are playing the Wii, together. It's so cute they are playing Lego Batman. Sophia is plating with ALL of her toys. She is the master of disaster. It amazes me how quickly she can turn the house upside down. But she's so darn cute!!

I am bored and was passing some time looking around the web when I came across this little 3 question quiz. This was my result:

Gift for my mom

Here is the bag I made my mom. I was in the process of making a zippered pouch to go with it when my sewing machine decided not to work. This was Christmas morning before we left for her house. She was very happy with her bag though. I really liked how it came out too....It was HUGE!! It would make an excellent overnight bag, or market tote.

On the flip side....

I used a Cotton Blossom's Charm Pack by Moda. The lining and handles were made using unbleached Muslin. I really like this Muslin. It is a new found favorite fabric of mine. The fact that it is in-expensive, and neutral is great. I use it to line my tissue cozies too :0) It looks great with this line of fabric with all the browns, blues, greens, reds and orange. I'll be making another one of these bags real soon! By the way the pattern is from JoAnn's Fabric Store. It's like $3.00 for the pattern. There is this one for charm squares and another for jelly roll strips..that's next on my list, for my Grandma.

The fabric I am sharing today is not the fabric I wanted to share. My camera is on the Fritz :0(
Oh well, there's always next week right? Today's pick is a very nice fabric...the picture is not the nicest..sorry! I have chosen to share Urban Chicks fabric, the line is 1974. I love this fabric!! I am actually in the process of making my first quilt using this particular jelly roll and charm pack. Since Christmas is over, I can now focus on my quilt. I can't wait!!

As promised, I am posting my sisters finished Christmas gifts. Hopefully she will not read this. Generally she doesn't unless I want her to see something. So, I made her this bag. As well as a smaller version of this, to be used as a makeup bag. Then I had to make a matching tissue cozy, of course! Here they are, drum roll please......

Both sides of the bag. It is reversible, but only one side has a pocket.

I love the covered button!! I also used a hair band for the loop closure, instead of the ribbon the instructions called for. I really like to used these as closures for things such as crayon rolls. They are much less of a headache. What I mean is A)Kids can open and close themselves, B) Kids are not constantly asking you to tie their crayon roll they keep undoing...over and over again! Just makes life that much more easy peasy!! Hopefully you all won't get too tired of me sharing my goodies. I just get so excited. Luckily our families live and hour and a half away or I would be gift giving early :0) Now I have one gift completely done. Off to finish some more. I will be posting again tomorrow. Hopefully with several more finished goods. Goodnight!

Sunday Stash

Wow, these weeks are just flying by. Here is my Sunday Stash again, so soon...at least it feels like it is too soon. Here are this weeks choices, I can never pick just one to share :0)

All are Amy Butler fabrics from her Daisey Chain Line. The color is Rose. It looks purplish-pink to me. Two of these beautiful fabrics have already been cut and are going to be several Christmas gifts for my sister. She picked purple as her color...this is as close as I had to purple in my stash. I am making her this bag, and this, and this too. I think it's a nice little set. I will post pics when I am done. Hopefully tomorrow mid morning :0) I still have more gifts to sew and my baking to begin. Hubby will be home tomorrow so he can help...with the kids and baking. He can't however help with the sewing because he is banned from using my sewing machine(s). Yes, machines I have 2 of them. Nor can he uses my scissors...I caught that punk trying to cut paper with my fabric scissors. As you can imagine I had to lay down the law about MY STUFF!! Just like with the kids my hubby was scolded and told to NEVER, EVER touch my sewing stuff again!
I gave him a pair of his own scissors, and if something needs sewn he needs to let me know and I will do it. Control issues, what? Who me? Never! (hahahaha) Ok maybe I am a little bit of a control freak. It is what it is. :0)

Handmade X-mas Gifts Galore!!

There are very few days till Christmas as we all know. I have been so focused on Swap items, and orders I have really neglected my list of Handmade X-mas gifts. Now I am kicking it into high gear and sewing...sewing...and sewing some more. All orders have completed have been received by the those that have placed their orders. I am so pleased that they love all of the goodies I have made. Whew!! I try to make everything perfect, but still worry that they will hate what I made. But they didn't!! Here is a recap of recent items I made :0)

Ohh and look what I got for my B-day! Aren't they Beautimus?!! Hopefully I won't kill them.

Now back to the purses and patterns. I love the Birdie sling by Amy Butler. I have read before that it is a large bag. I have to say I was still suprised to see how HUGE it really is. It also has 2 pockets on the inside...I love pockets. I am happy with how my work came out. Just as I am happy with how my Sandi Henderson Market Bag turned out. Again anothe good sized bag w/pockets :0) It was my first time using both patterns. I am always apprehensive the first time doing anything. But the instructions on both patters were great. The Birdie Sling is just A LOT of cutting...lots of pieces. But once you piece it and start sewing it's a breeze. It also called for more fabric then needed..so I have some left over for some smaller projects. I am going to have to do a post at some point dedicated to pattern reviews, hmmm....definetly!

Anyhoo, I have some sewing to get started, and finished. As well as some baking to get done. I am baking some goodies for my neighbors, and family members for X-mas. I live in a Cul-d-sac, so all 5 neighbors will ne getting Peppermint Marshmallows, Brownied, and a for Recipe Cards for Homemade Hot Chocolate, and such. Wish me luck (Wink) I'm going to need it due to there being so many hours in a day, and 4 days to do it all in. I'll leave you with a project sone by my hubby. He is from the Philippines. In the Philippines the have something called a Parol. It is a star shapped lantern that is put up around X-mas time. Well, he found some bamboo and made this star......

Then he found some holiday Cellophane type paper and it cam out like this....

Not bad huh?! He is quite crafty. I've caught him messing with my sewing machine...who knew!
Now I am off to make my handmade gifts. I'll post my Sunday Stash later this evening.

Market Bag Success Woo-Hoo!!!

I had a custom order for Sandi Henderson's Market bag. I am always a little apprehensive when trying out a new pattern. But I have to say that this pattern was AWESOME!! It was so easy to follow. With colorful pictures, and great descriptions it was a breeze. I think it helped that I followed the directions to a tee.....sometimes I am very bad about that. Maybe some of the success was from doing what I should always do when using Directions...you know following them :0) Here it is...it's so purdy. I made the boxier of the two patterns. Let me tell you I am going to have a hard time handing it over.....

and it is reversible, but the second picture came out funky....

I love it!! I also made 2 handbags for a mother and daughter. One side is the same and the lining is different for each bag. I pulled the teal out of one for the lining, and the one pictures has the lime green. They are both reversible. I think reversible bags are great makes them a bit more versitile. Don't you think? I still need to add buttons and they will be Fini!! Here is a picture of one of them.

Tonight I need to finish Amy Butler's Birdie Sling. I have everything cut and ready to go. As soon as it is finished this order will be complete. Four custom bags in all..Whew. This is my third custom order. YAY!! Just a side note all bags were made using Heather Bailey Fabric. Except for the lining on the two handbags :0) I'll post pics when the Birdie Sling is complete which will be soon.

Swap Goodies!!

My first swap has been completed. The Happy Scrap Swap is where everyone was put in groups of 3. Each person sent a sandwich bag full of scraps to both of their partners. In turn all several small items were made for the partners form the scraps, and the goodies were sent. I have finally sent out my packages for my partners. I did however send swaps to the wrong person. She was very kind to actually make me some goodies and send them back to me, though she didn't have to :0) Thank You Heather! Thank you to all the ladies who participated. I have cooked up a new swap idea. Keep on the lookout for it in the new year. Here is what I have received thus far....By the way I have been playing with Photoshop Elements, it's great!

OK, now back to my swap gifts from upper left and then going clockwise; A new pincushion, Fabric flower magnet, key chain fob; Bird ornament, Stuffed owl, and zippered makeup bag; Margarita Doll (Doodle Girl); Bookmark, House Ornaments, Scarf, tissue cozy, and Needle book.

The doll was not part of the swap it was a gift to my daughter from my friend Abbie. Isn't she cute? Her name is Margarita. I will definitely be trying my hand at some dolls as soon as Christmas is over. There are some really great patterns on Etsy. Like Bit of Whimsy Prims, and
Herbst (which I have already purchased), and don't forget Wee Wonderfuls (I have these too). These come in PDF form which is awesome. I don't like to wait for patterns because I am a bit impatient. PDF's are great, you get them within 24 hours, and you can print them out :0) For the E-Book/PDF's that have more than 10 pages you can usually upload the file to Staples, Office Depot, at Kinko's. The prices aren't too bad, and your not waisting all of your ink!

I love my stuff, thanks again. I hope my partners like what I made them :0)

Also, I took a poll in regards to my website, and seems like the textured blue is the winner...It was my fave too...Thanks to those who took the time to vote, I appreciate it. I will be moving froward and working on finishing the site....eventually :0)

Well I need to go get my butt in gear. It is my 30th B-day today!! My friend has offered to watch my children so my hubby and I can go out on a date. Gosh, I can't remember the last time he and I went out together kid less...It's un heard of. Hopefully we make it home safe, it decided to snow today :0( Everyone have a good one. Stay warm!

Sunday Stash!!

Sunday is here again. I'm a bit late on my Sunday Stash post...sorry! I have been feeling pretty ill since yesterday. Last night was horrible as I was up half the night praying to the porcelain god. Now that I have shared more than most of you would like to hear, here is my Sunday Stash for today. The theme for today is "New found Fun". Because these are all new fabrics to my stash and they are all fun prints :0)

From left to right:Michael Miller Eiffel Tower in pink; Amy Schimler for Robert Kauffman Creatures and Critters, the third fabric is the same line as the second; lastly Robert Kauffman Polka Dot Chickens.

See I told you they were fun! I an still trying to decide what creations I will make from these fabrics.....any ideas? I bet you do have some. Let me know what you think would be a cute project for any of these fabrics :0)

I don't know about you but I am somewhat ready for X-mas. It really kinda snuck up on me. I still have a few gifts to finish making, and others to ship out. I guess I better kick my butt into high gear...but now that I am sick I really don't feel like doing much. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, as it is a new day! Ok I am off to bed, have a good one!!

Hello there! I have decide to change 2 of my web pages already. If you don't know what the heck I am talking about read the previous post :) I change the first and last pages, which had 1 vote each. Well, I am in need of some opinions people. I babbled on and on in a previous post in regards to which website I wanted to host my new store at. I currently have Homestead and sue to their cost have decided to stick with them. Now I have to work on building my site...which has been on the back burner lately. This is because I have been so indecisive about keeping my site at Homestead. A friend of mine pointed out a very painful but true fact...I am not selling a ton online *sniff sniff*. So I basically do not need all the bells and whistles at this point.

All that said I have begin to build my site but am not sure on which background I like. Soooo....I wanted to ask of the few that read my blog to help in my decision process. What I am going to do is add a link to my store. Please do take a look at each page because they are all different! Take note of the page you are looking at (ie:Home, Purses, etc..). Then come back to my blog and at that point I will have a poll on my sidebar. Cast your votes. If you have anything else to add in regards to my site(pointers of any kind) please leave a comment on this post. I will close the poll on Dec 16th, which is my birthday.

I can't believe it is Sunday again, already. Time has just flown by lately. Here are the fabrics I chose to share in this weekends Sunday Stash.....

Both fabrics are by Tula Pink. The first is Flutterby Dragonflies in Teal, and second is Flutterby Bumblebees is Teal. I love how Tula Pink hides insects in her patterns. LOVELY!!

Sew Tote-ally Busy!!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I am exhausted...to say the least. I have been busy busy as usual. I feel like I've had so many projects going on, but I don't have a ton to show for it. Does this ever happen to anybody else? I swear I have sewn way more items than I have...hmmmm? I have made some totes. Wanna see?!

Sorry about the crummy pic. I am no photographer, nor do I have the patience to load each picture separately. I do like how these came out though. They were easy to make too. The link to the tutorial is in a previous post :0)

I have also made a few wallets. I FINALLY got that pattern down pat. I have the hardest time following directions to a tee. It's a real problem because if I would life would be so much easier.
I was reading my Astrological sign info the other day and it was pretty much dead on. It states that I don not like to follow the rules....hahahaha!! Hence not following directions completely. Anyone else find their signs, horoscopes, etc interesting. HERE is the link to mine, I'm a Sagittarius. As a matter of fact my 30th B-day is creeping up on me....I'm not to happy about that :0(

Oh yea, here are some wallets I've been busy making.

I also decided to try Pink Penguin's Fabric Basket Tutorial today. I have some left over skater print fabric, and will be making it for my Step Mother who loves anything ice skater themed. I took a pic before I added the handles ( which I have now done). I still need to add lining, but ran out of the polka dot. I guess I'll be taking a Sunday trip to the fabric store....which is OK with me.
This Tutorial is easy, and the basket is fairly small. I think it would be good for a place for makeup you keep in your bathroom. At least that is my suggestion to my Step mom. I'll be making more of these for sure!

I finally listed some items in my Etsy shop. I have also been on the hunt for a new E-commerce type site. One that isn't expensive. I have one through Homestead, but I dunno...Not too happy with it. Although it is only $4.95 a month. But, you cannot sell items unless you upgrade..? What's the point? I've seen a few places like Big Cartel, and Zen Cart. With Zen Cart you have to host through someone else....which I do not like. I bought my domain name so I can transfer that with me until I find a site I am happy with. Hopefully soon please as I started with, Vista Print, then Freewebs, now Homestead.....I just can't make up my mind. Can you tell? If anyone out there has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Please!!!!

I'll leave you with a picture of my Fia :0) My hubby took her pic and then she told me that she was a monkey. Who knew monkeys put their hands on their ears. I thought of hear no evil when she said that. Can you spot her chocolate cake crumbs on her seat? She is one messy little thing. But, she makes me smile anyway!

Silly Kids!!

I don't know about you but my kids are a constant source of amusement. Some of these things amuse me and not others..this may be one of those situations. I will share anyways. My daughter Sophia slid a mailing box over her head a few weeks ago and walked up to my husband telling him "I robot, I robot", in a robotic voice. He decided to cut arm holes for her. Last night she walked up to me and was wearing this saying "I robot, I robot". She really has a great sense of humor already...so silly. She is a mini me, as I am easily amused :0) Pleas excuse the mess in the background, she is "The master of disaster" as we call her. That is actually a nickname my uncles gave me when I was small..lol!

This morning she put on this plastic pitcher as a had and proceeded to tell me that she was an astronaut, then ran away screaming "Blast off!!!!!".

My sweet Devi wanted in on the picture taking..he's such a sweetie. He too has many comical moments. Most of which need to be recorded by video. He is always singing and dancing. The kid has a million favorite songs. Just when I am getting frustrated he has a habit of saying something hilarious...Gosh, I love my kids! They have great personalities.

Just so you know I try not to take too many pics of Devi. He has several bald spots in his hair caused by intense scratching from his Eczema. We've been waiting about a year for it to grow back :( Hopefully it will soon. It's been a SLOW process.

Sunday Stash!!

It's Sunday again already. That means it's the day to share a little bit of my fabric stash :0) Today I chose a few fabrics that won't be in my stash for much longer. I will be making Market Tote bags out of them. I found the tutorial over at Film in the Fridge's blog. HERE is the link to the Market Tote Tutorial. Now for the fabrics.......

From Left to right: Green Floral print I picked up a bit ago at Joann's Fabric, Heather Bailey's Dotted Paisley in Peach(the first 2 will be paired together), Heather Bailey's Large Peonies, and again Heather Bailey fabric called Peonies in pink. I will pair the last two with a pink linen like fabric. I will post again with a finished product!

I have to say Heather Bailey is my fave, well one of the top 5. Can you tell by my stash post?! I am very drawn to bright fun colors. Heather Bailey's fabrics definitely fit the build :0)

Anyhow, it happens to be a rainy Sunday here.....Perfect day to sew and get thing done around the house. I have a week to fully prepare for my first craft fair. I have a ton of tissue covers made, totes cut and needing sewn, and a bunch of other items I'd like to get done. I already have a variety of purses sewn up, I just need to slip stitch their linings closed. Here are 12 of the 20 tissue covers. I will be giving some away as X-mas gifts. You can find links to make these HERE and HERE. Super easy project. I got the tissues at the Dollar Tree, Pack of 6 for $1.00. Thanks to Abbie telling me about them :0)

I have however finished my first order and wanted to share the final product. Here are 4 of the 25 change purses I made.

I have a second order from my step mom which includes 6 tote bags with the vintage skater print. I have completed 2...well I still have to top stitch them. I had to order more of that particular fabric. It arrived Friday, so now I can complete them all. Take a peak!

I used a Moda Tote bag pattern I got from a quit show. It was $2.50. It is also the first pattern I had ever sewn. I did tweak it a little. The handles were just sewn onto the lining at the end and you could see the stitched box with X on the outer part of the bag. I did not like that too much so I hid the end of the handles. It looks so much nicer. This is a good sized tote too. I lengthened the handles per my Step mom's request.

OK apparently I have a ton to get done so I am off to the sewing machine. I will post again with some finished goodies to share with you all. Enjoy your Sunday!!

Fabric is a girls best friend.....

Forget diamonds, fabric is a girls best friend! OK so really I am just speaking for myself, and I do still like diamonds. I wanted to share some items I have around my home.....like this cute owl print. I purchased this for a gift for my sisters close friend Cindy. My sister has had a bunch of medical issues lately and just got out of the hospital. While in the hospital her friend came and spent most of the day, and even stayed with her a few nights because my mom could not. Cindy LOVES owls, so I decided I would make her some goodies for Christmas for being such a good friend to my sister. I am thinking of this Pattern HERE. I am toying with the idea of lining it with Muslin....We shall see I like to change my mind frequently.

Here are some recent pattern purchases. They are by Jess Goldman from Bananafana. They are the My Pennie Purse, and The Brooke Bag. Check out her blog she has some really great patterns for skirts, and quilts too.

Last but not least I wanted to share more of my quilt block for my first quilt. I have a lot more to do. I really enjoy making them...

I have had several more custom orders..YAY!! so I have been working on those. Along with Gifts I am giving this season, and craft fair goods. Oops, and gifts for my swap partners..I have 2 done. Needless to say i have been and will be a busy little bee the next few weeks. Hopefully I will buzz through all of the things I have to and want to get done. Wish me luck!

Sewing Supply Raid!!

Yesterday I spent the day with my in laws. My mother in law is a avid seamstress. She is also the yard sale queen. That said she has tons and tons of fabric and other sewing supplies. Now when we go over there I come home with free goodies :0) Above was a fitting Thanksgiving day find. Don't ya think? It's fleece with Indian print. I thought it would be perfect for a little boys coloring roll....it's big enough for 3 of them. Can you say craft fair?

Next were the zippers I took a handful of them in several colors. I love free stuff :0)

Embroidery thread, and some bobbins. You can never have enough bobbins. Look at the pretty colors...ooohhhhh!!

Here is some Ric-rac. I am making some ornaments for my up coming craft fair and needed Ric-rac. Needless to say I was very excited about this find.

Lastly, Bias tape and Boutache Braid. I also raided her fabric room...yes a full room dedicated to her fabric stash, and had a stack of fabric to bring home which I forgot. Who forgets to bring fabric home?? Sheesh! I also had a stack from the previous visit sitting right next to it because I forgot the last time too... Really I'll be honest I feel kind of bad taking her stuff. Even though she's all about it and doesn't mind. I don't know I just feel like I am taking advantage. I do not want her to feel that way as well.

Hello fellow Bloggers :0) I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Turkey Day!! Enjoy your day with the company of family, friends, and pets(if you have them). I just love the holiday season. As great as it is, it is also a time in which we think of those who are no longer with us. My step-father, the man who raised me passed suddenly on Father's Day 2007. This time of year is still hard for our family because he is no longer with us. But, I am thankful for the fact that our relationship was somewhat mended before he passed. That I got to see him try and become a better father, husband, grandfather, and man in general. Sometimes we are not the best of people, nor do we make the best decisions. What matters is if we strive to be a better person, and strive to do the right thing in the end. I feel like I saw this change in my dad...I am thankful that I can remember that side of him. I am also thankful for my husband, and children. My son has severe food and allergies, eczema, and asthma. These factors land him in the hospital 1-2 times a year. I am thankful that these issues are nothing more, as it could be worse...Aside from his constant itchiness he is a wonderful, fun loving, sweet little boy.
I am thankful for my daughter being a happy, funny, healthy little girl. I do wish however that she would sleep in her own bed, and quit nursing completely(she's 2-1/2).
I am also thankful for my husband and myself being happy and healthy. That we still Love each other even though we have seen some really hard times together. We are still together and work very hard to stay that way. Let's face it not all relationships are a cake walk, and all take lots of work and effort.

OK that is what I am thankful for..sorry for anything remotely depressing. I am very thankful for each and every day I am here. As everyone else should be too. Again Happy Turkey Day!! Enjoy and eats lots of good food!!

Yummy Goodness on a Cold Day!!

Well now that it has gotten COLD, I have been craving the ultimate comfort food...Broccoli Cheddar Soup. I love Panera because of their soup and the fact that it comes in a bread bowl. Mmmm...carbs! Anyways, I decided that is high time for me to make it myself. Mainly because it is more cost effective(I'm all about saving some $$). SO I got all my ingredients which included bread for the bread bowls, and made it :0) It was so good!!!! Not to mention a good amount of soup. Plenty for leftovers. Maybe I'll even freeze a little......

Here is the LINK to the recipe I used. I suggest using fresh ingredients where possible. One of the reviewers suggested the same. I used Mini Sourdough Boules for my bread bowls. I got them at Walmart. They came in packs of 2 and were only $2.50. Definitely worth a try on a COLD day. Just so you know it keeps flurrying here....I really hate the cold. I'll take the beach any day..thanks! If you decide to try this recipe out or have another one to share let me know.

First Quilt Blocks!!

I have officially finished my first two quilt blocks. Let me tell ya, I am so excited!! I cannot wait to keep making more. The anticipation of what the final product will be is just awesome. I feel like a kid in a candy store ;0) I am using Urban Chicks1974 line fabric. A jelly roll, and charm pack. I absolutely LOVE this fabric!! I'm addicted to making these blocks, and have already paired all the pieces of each one. So they are ready to sew...Hopefully tonight will be an early bedtime for the kiddies. That way I can get sewing. Aren't they cute?!

I am supposed to be working on the 25 wallets for my step mother. But I am more interested in working on my first quilt...ADD, I know. I have cut, sewn, and turned all 25 wallet pieces. I have to press, add loop, split ring, fold, and stitch them. Then lastly I will add a cute little snap and they will be done. I'm really in no rush, as I was told not to be in one. You only have to tell me once..HA! I'll get them done before the weekend is over I'm sure. Here's what I have thus far...

Scraps Galore!!

I have received some scraps form my Happy Scrap Swap Partners. Oh what to make, what to make!! I had so many ideas beforehand....now I'm drawing a blank. I'd like to make something useful for my partners. Not just something that they will put aside and never think twice about. Any ideas? There is a mix of more modern bright fabrics, and others with a more vintage feel. I'm not quite sure how to tie them together. Here are some of the ideas I have tossed around....Bookmarks, magenents, tissue cozy, coffee cup cozy. The decision is that much harder due to the fact that I am making something for a complete stranger. I have no clue what they like, or don't for that mater. Any and every idea is greatly appreciated..Thanks!

Pondering My First Quilting Experience!!

So, I have never quilted before. I really want to learn though. I have to say I have been a bit intimidated by the whole quilting process. That is probably why I haven't tried yet. I have been doing a lot of reading of Quilting Bloggers lately and have decided to try my hand at making a quilt. I have been very inspired by reading Crazy Mom Quilts....She's amazing!! There are really so many talented quilters out there that have amazing blogs.

I had considered just doing a doll quilt as a starter, but that's not how I roll....It's go big or go home. So I am going to go a step up and start with a lap quilt(lol, Ok so not that big!). I have chosen to use a jelly roll, and charm Pack from Urban Chicks..1974 Print. Hopefully I am not biting off more than I can chew. Really I am just psyching myself out. The reason...who the heck knows! I also decided I am not going to follow any particular pattern. Yep, I know a recipe for disaster but I'm willing to take that chance. I'll be sure to post my progress.....

Show and Tell!!

I just wanted to share my step-mom's finished bag. She has already received it, and taken it to work with her. I was told it was a hit at the Ice Skating Rink she teaches at. She also asked me to make 25 change purses for her students for X-mas gifts....YAY!! She is my first custom order..woo-hoo!! Everybody has to start somewhere, right?

I have another fun Ice Skater print in red. I also ordered green, and yellow. These will be perfect for the change purses! I think that print is more fun for kids :0) I better get started with the print I do have.

I also have a ton of sewing to do to prepare for my first Craft Fair. My friend Abbie asked if I wanted to participate with her, my response is "Of Course!!" I'm really excited. So I have until Dec. 6th to get a lot done. Not to mention I need to get some more inventory in my Etsy Shop. I have had a total of ONE sale over there...and it was for a charm pack I was selling to De-stash a little. My stash really is not that big, but is sufficient for me. I have had to have a lot of self control and not keep purchasing fabric.....The hubby had a bit of a fit when he realized I was acquiring package after package of fabric in the mail..Oops!! So I have agreed to not buy anymore unless I need it for a custom order, or I have sold Items I have made with what I have already. Man, husbands can be a bummer sometimes..Can't live with em', can't live without em'!

I am so excited about the fact that yesterday I voted for the first time. I will be 30 next month and never voted before....I ask myself why?? I am so proud that I have voted in one of the most important elections this country has has. I am also so very overjoyed with the fact that the candidate I was rooting for has been named the winner..by a landslide :0) I was on the edge of my seat last night watching, and waiting for the numbers. Obama won by a landslide!! Now I feel a sense of relief and hope for our country. I know millions of others feel as I do, and are excited for a fresh outlook for the U.S.

What I'm doing this weekend...

This weekend I would like to finish up some of the projects I have started. I have a habit of starting a ton of things at once instead of doing one project from start to finish...I'm so ADD. I've mentioned in a previous post that I am like this...and that I get bored easily..(ADD), so this is why. Plus, I feel like there are so many things I want to sew so I start something, read about something else, get excited, and then start something new....It is what it is!

This morning I have cut everything for my Giveaway Bag and the Matching Wallet. All I need to do is sew it..YAY!!
I also need to finish my Step-Mother's Birthday gift...It's mostly cut. I cut 2 of the pieces an inch too short and need to go to the fabric store for more fabric. That way I can actually finish. I really should not cut anything when I'm dog tired, cause that's when mishaps happen :0(
I REALLY need to finish this one, and have it mailed on Monday. Her B-day is the 5th...so....Wednesday. I think this is feasible. Hopefully it will make it to Vegas in time.

I have also cut, and pinned 3 crayon rolls. These are Christmas gifts..one for my son Devin, and one for each of his boy cousins. It is race car fabric I found in my fabric stash :0) Don't you love finding something in you stash you forgot. It was perfect because I thought I'd have to buy some and I had the perfect fabric here!! It is the same print, but one is blue, one is black, and the other is red.

I also plan to start my friend Abbie's Christmas gift....she already know that I am making her Amy Butler's Birdie Sling, with Joel Dewberry's Chestnut Hill Fabric. Tho I think I need to order another fabric to go with what I have cause I am not 100% about the combo. She picked out the 3 she wanted together, but I dunno if she was 100% about the combo. The fact of the matter is that is all I had for this collection, so she didn't have a ton of options with the combo...we shall see!

I have some charm packs that I need to find something to do with....I am really interested in learning to quilt....I'm a little nervous about quilting. Don't ask why, I just am. But I am thinking of making a doll quilt for my daughter...and giving it to her for Christmas. I found a Tutorials for them HERE, and HERE. I will also be making a diaper for her doll. Diaper Tutorial can be found HERE. Fia keeps asking me for one of her diapers so she can put it on her baby dolls.

Happy Scraps Swap & Giveaway

Who doesn't love a good swap?! Enter The Happy Scrap Swap hosted by Myself (Kat) Handmade-oholic, and Abbie at The Handmade Quilter. Keep reading for more info.

What: A swap of scraps from your scrap pile--please use scraps no smaller than a 4" square to your group partners. Each group will have 3 people in it. Fill two sandwich size Ziploc bags with as many scraps you can fit into it. Try to have the same equal amounts of scraps for your partners. Send yours scraps out along with a self-addressed envelope measuring 8" x 10"with 6, 42cent stamps on it.

In turn your partners should be sending you theirs as well with a self-addressed stamped envelope for you to mail their items to. When those arrive, mix it all up and create little gifts to make for your swap partners-2 in total, 1 for each partner out of the scraps you received. You should be left with scraps yourself and create yourself a gift! When: Sign up is now until November 3, 2008, your 1st package of scraps in the sandwich bag should be mailed out no later than November 15th. Have your 2nd package of your gift mailed out to your swap partners by December 13th. Where: Sign up is HERE. Click on the word "Here" to be directed to our sign-up sheet which will enter you in the swap. You will also find a link to sign-ups on my sidebar. Who: Anyone who signs up before November 3rd regardless of whether or not you have a blog, just be sure to provide your email address.

Things to be done!!

There are a few sewing projects I'd like to get to around here. The main one being my ironing board. I REALLY need to re-vamp the cover. It's sooo Funky, and past the point of no return. See what I mean...YUCK!! That's what you call a sewing 911.

Here are a few Tutorials I am planning to getting to this week. My Girlfriend Abbie showed me her Tissue Holder cover, which was adorable....So I am going to "Whip Up" a few(I know I'm a dork). I also want to make some Crayon rolls, which are so cute! And some Makeup Cases. I also have some bags the need finishing (as always), and some that need beginning :) I also have several people I'd like to make a Coffee Cup Cozy, and Fabric Book Marks. The last item I am going to give a whirl is "Wendy the Bird" by Lolly from LollyChops Blog. I love this blog!!!

That should keep me busy..It's ONLY six different tutorials(times ? cause I'll be making a few of each item). Take a look at the links :) If you haven't made any of these things you should try them out too!! I just love free tutorials...I'm always on the hunt for new ones. Maybe one day I will have a few of my own to post. ;^)

In a Sew Good Mood!!

So I have completed a few projects over the weekend. I wanted to share :) The picture below shows everything cut and ready to go...I love these prints from Sandi Henderson's Farmers Market.

This is a cute pattern I found on Etsy. There are several issues I will be relaying to the Author of the pattern(this is why I am not adding a link...yet). But other wise it came out cute. It was easy to make, and didn't take a lot of fabric. I will make it again, but my own version with my revisions. Maybe next time I will quilt it ..but my way!

Here is the finished bag. It's cute as can be, isnt't it?! It was supposed to be quilted, but I omitted that step. I also made a covered button to match :) Again I LOVE this fabric....the combo is stunning.

I also made a matching wallet to go with the bag. I made these items as a gift for my neighbors 12th B-day.

Another bag I have finished is the a Pleated tote bag. It was made with Amy Butler's Cherry Blossom, and wallflower pattern fabrics. I think I am going to have to rip out the top stitching and redo it again cause it really came out crummy. I can always count on my trustee seam ripper. Who knew, I am so very dependent on that little baby ;>) Sorry, the picture sucks!

Zipper Mishap....

So I found a Tutorial for a cute zippered pouch. I am not very experienced with zippers yet, but this pattern made me feel confident doing one. The instructions and pictures were very clear(so I thought). Well it came out cute...even though I tweaked it just a lil' bit. The only issue is the the zipper's opening is on the wrong side :(

I should have quilted the individual squares.....Next time!

See what I mean about the zipper.... It should be the other way, from left to right. Not right to left...UGH!!!

Next time I'll get it right, and I will make a second tab as the pattern called for.

Sew Craft Blog!!

I have just found this great blog called Sew Craft Blog. Thank you Keri for the excellent idea of getting crafty peeps of all sorts together in one place. When you join you are placed in groups..I am in group #1 yeah!! Then you post the Sew Craft Blog button on your sidebar. After that you add the blogs of those in your particular group to your blog list. All you have to do is heck in with your blog-mates once a week and post a comment. Not much skin off my teeth as I love to read the different blogs out there. If you are crafty and have a blog of your own you should definitely check Sew Craft Blog out.

Marketing Idea!

Happy Saturday Everyone!! So as I mentioned before, I am process of starting a business. I could not have picked a worse time to do so...Lol. I really need to get more product added to my sites.....but, sometimes finding the time to sew is very limited. Especially lately as my husband has been doing a lot of studying and test taking for promotions in the Fire Department :) Understandable his work comes before my sewing :( Anyway, I have been trying to think of more ways to market myself. If anyone has any ideas please leave me a comment. I am going to leave my business cards in local stores that have community bulletin boards. I didn't want to just pin my card up so I made a little card holder(see picture). I took some card stock I had from an earlier project, cut a slot for the business cards, and attached them to business post cards I had ordered. Then I placed stickers on to spell out "Take One". I think this will be much more eye catching than just pinning several business cards to a bulletin board. What do you think? Feedback, suggestions, and advise is always welcome. I just want to have a successful business at some point. But I know it takes time. It also takes patience(which I do not have much patience AT ALL).

Oh I almost forgot to mention that I have added some Tutorials I'd like to try in the side bar. They are offered by some great sites, check them out if you haven't already seen them. I am in the process of making a few thing of my own, and will be making tutorials for them at some point. Well, hopefully I will be able to get a project or two in today. Just send in 24 5x5" quilt squares of your choice(the good stuff), 3-4 stamps, and a self addressed envelope. By the end of November you will receive your package of goodies which will contain 24 very different 5x5" quilt squares. I'm very excited. Handmade Holiday's and Birthdays with a recycled twist!!

I have decided that this year since I have taken the "Handmade Pledge" most gifts will be handmade. Some will be recycled items, like toys for my kids.
I made my sister's birthday present this year. Her B-day was in June and I made her the "Flea Market Bag" By Grand Revival, which is reversible. For fabric I used Amy Butler, it is so cute!! I also made a matching "Removable Purse Pocket." Apparently she has received a ton of compliments on it. That makes me feel awesome of course!!

Anyway, My step mother has a Birthday coming up. She is a professional Ice Skater. She actually skated for the Ice Capades...a LOOONNNGGG time ago(she was Papa Smurf at one point). Well, I am making her a tote with Michael Miller's Holiday Skater fabric, combined with a solid black fabric. I don't want it to be to Christmas like. She now teaches Ice Skating lessons to kids, and I wanted to make something she can utilize on a daily basis. I haven't even made it yet and can't wait to give it to her. I think today is a good day to start. But once I finish I'll want to send it to her and her B-day isn't till Nov 5th.
Speaking of gifts, this is my scrap pile which will turn into X-mas gifts of sorts. Wallets, cosmetic bags, sachets, change purses, bookmarks, glasses cases, lavender eye pillows, and whatever else I can think of......
My husband is home and I have already got my cleaning done. It's SEW time people!!

Thrifty Little Finds :)

I just had to share the cute little yard sale find I got. For .50 cents I got these cute little Brighton Bag Bookmarks! There were 3, but with small children sometimes it is imposable to not end up with MISSING items :( At least I was able to hang on to these 2(for now, lol...) Now I can mark my book pages with a little added style!

Here is a picture of a table that I saw driving past a recycling center. I made my husband(Jay) turn around so I could get it. It is U.G.L.Y!! Jay painted the legs white, and I made a little cover to go on top(Not my best work but do-able). I also placed a basket underneath for DVD/VHS Tapes. Now we have a TV table for my kids play room/My sewing room. (Yes, we need to finish placing base boarding in this room).

This morning I was cleaning my living room, while taking sips of my coffee here and there. I walked by my sliding glass door that looks out on my deck, and I see my dog sitting on top of a deck side table. He is usually trying to chew on it(If you can see the corners you can tell). I thought it was funny, so I wanted to share. Doesn't he look like a statue? Boxers are a comical breed, one in their own. I just checked and he's been officially sitting like that for 15 minutes, what a weirdo!!

I have really been slacking on my sewing lately. I have so many things I want to make, but not enough time in the day to do so.....not much time at all. My little ones keep my mighty busy!
I have however found the time to complete a few of the many projects I have started. I like to have several projects going at once. What can I say I get bored easily, and this helps keep things interesting.

The first Goodie is a cute handbag called "Fiona" by Jenna Lou. I kind of made my own version of this bag. It was made using Valori Wells, Olive Rise fabric. Ohhhh-la la, It is ADORABLE!

Next I have finished a cute business card wallet. I have decided to use it as a regular wallet. I used Sandi Henderson's Ginger Blossom fabric. It features two simple slot pockets(One on each side), and I added a magnetic snap closure. Simple and sweet. I found, and purchased this PDF Pattern off of Etsy. Click HERE !

Welcome to my blog! My name is Katherine a stay at home mom of two, and I have a new found LOVE of sewing & making handmade goodies. This Blog is where I will share my adventures in sewing and life if you will. Believe me everyday is an adventure for me as I am still a newbie at sewing. I have started a company doing just that. It is called Sevi Designs. I am very excited about this venture. I have been very interested in and have been dreaming about making purses/totes especially for a long time. But, had been slacking on the idea with no real motivation. It happens to the best of us!

Last year I had been reunited with a friend I had not seen since high school(I've known since elementary school). She had started to really get into quilting and shared the same enthusiasm in the bags/sewing I wished I had. Long story short she has given me the push I needed to move forward with this dream. So, Thank you Abbie! Your kick in the pants, and friendship will always be appreciated :)

I had not touched a sewing machine since....well....Junior High. But with a ton of reading and research. Along with a great friend who know all things sewing related., I have taught myself how to sew. I had no idea the extent to which I would LOVE it!! As a stay at home mother of small children I had lost sight of my likes/hobbies/dreams. So, it is so gratifying to now have something that I enjoy doing so much.

As I mentioned before I have started a business. When I say started i mean JUST started. The name is dedicated to my two children Devin(who we call Devi) & Sophia. Hopefully this will bring me some luck ;) My daughter is 2 and already tells my husband "Mommy's making a bag." She also loves to sort, and fold my remnant pieces of fabric. My son who is 4 always says "Oh mom your doing a great job!" My husband Jay (A Firefighter)has been pleasantly surprised as well. He keeps mentioning that he never knew I could be so domesticated. Along with being amazed the not too long ago I was unaware of how to use a sewing machine. Now I'm sewing like I've been doing so for years. Support is such an amazing gift one person can give to another. I have to say that I am very lucky!
